SAVELLETRI DI FASANO
The Area
Casa Liliane is located in the typical Italian fisherman village of Savelletri di Fasano, located on the “heel” of Italy in the region of Puglia. The village is just a few minutes walk from the apartment and has many eateries, restaurants, typical Italian bars, little shops and in the evening a lovely little, newly built “lungomare”: the boulevard.
Surrounded by rocks and beaches, the port is also a short walk away. Here the Adriatic spreads out before you offering the perfect place to relax.
Many locals and Italian tourists, from bigger cities, visit Savelletri di Fasano in the summer to cool down and relax. This is Italy, for the Italians.
GOLF SAN DOMENICO
For golf lovers there is the San Domenico golf course nearby. While you’re walking over the green, you’ll have a beautiful few over the sea. If you’re not wanting to play, you can watch the golfers from the apartment. www.golfpuglia.it
ALBEROBELLO
Alberobello is a “must” to visit while you are in Puglia. A UNESCO World Heritage centre, Alberobello is an open air museum of trulli’s - typical Puglian houses, built ina certain style to evade taxes -.
ROMAN EXCAVATIONS OF EGNAZIA
Less than a 10 minutes drive away, you can find the Roman excavations of Egnazia, an old Roman harbor, situated along the via Tariana to Brindisi. Egnazia, survived the fall of the Roman Empire and developed during the early Christian period. The excavations provide interesting information and remains of the local inhabitants and later the later Roman period in the area. Very interesting village and museum to visit.
Lecce - Sometimes described as the “Florence of the Baroque” or the “Rome of the South”, Lecce is a baroque masterpiece and well-worth the visit!
OSTUNI
Set on the top of a mountain, Ostuni is one of the most picturesque towns in Puglia. Known as the White City, thanks to its plentiful white-washed houses, it is a wonderful place to spend a day - or just the evening - exploring the labyrinthine streets, and sampling some of the fantastic local cuisine.
LOCOROTONDO
Perched on the top of a hill, Locorotondo is a pretty Puglian town that is known for its wine. It has a beautiful centre with little streets and lovely terraces, perfect to explore. Take a walk through Locorondo to feel the Southern Italian atmosphere. Just lovely!
Of course there are many other lovely places to visit, Matera is only an hours drive away and in Fasano, our family has an excellent “Pasticceria” (patisserie). It might be worth a visit, just the once, to treat yourself to a breakfast of home roasted coffee and incredible croissants with marmalade made from the fruits from family trees. Or, if you get there a bit later, you have to try the gelato, it’s just divine! www.pasticceriavelletri.com
